About
Dr. Nicolosi, Jr. is the founder of the Reintegrative Therapy Association. He is a licensed clinical psychologist, researcher and author of multiple peer-reviewed journal articles. Learning Objectives (Intermediate-Level Clinicians) By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Explain the core mechanisms of memory reconsolidation and differentiate them from traditional habituation-based exposure and purely cognitive restructuring. 2. Describe the components and sequence of the Feeling State Flash Technique (FSFT), including target selection, Positive Engagement Focus (PEF), bilateral stimulation, and “flash” procedures. 3. Identify clinical presentations in which euphoric recall, unwanted sexual arousal, and sexual trauma are central maintaining factors, and formulate these within a reconsolidation framework. 4. Use standardized measures of trait anxiety (e.g., STAI-T, PSWQ) to determine whether a client is an appropriate candidate for FSFT or first requires stabilization, CBT, or mindfulness-based interventions. 5. Apply FSFT principles to case vignettes by developing suitable PEFs, structuring sessions, and monitoring changes in arousal, affect, and belief systems over time. 6. Recognize red flags and contraindications (e.g., severe dissociation, borderline traits, object constancy issues) and modify or defer reconsolidation work accordingly in favor of safety and stabilization. 7. Critically evaluate the outcome data presented (including Nicolosi’s RCT and related studies), assessing strengths, limitations, and implications for clinical practice and future research. 8. Integrate ethical and professional considerations by articulating how to maintain client autonomy, avoid coercion, and align interventions with the client’s stated values, goals, and informed consent.
