Ensuring Freedom for Counselors and Their Clients
The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Liberty Counsel’s clients, Dr. Robert Otto, LMFT and Dr. Julie Hamilton, LMFT and their minor clients, who challenged the constitutionality of ordinances enacted by the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County. As a result, now counselors in Florida, Georgia and Alabama are free to help their minor clients.

A Return to Professional Integrity
Restoring The Leona Tyler Principle
In 1973, American Psychological Association President Leona Tyler enunciated the principle under which the organization would advocate in the name of psychology. This principle became APA policy. That policy establishes that as an organization APA advocacy should be based on scientific data and demonstrable professional experience. Absent such validation it should be left to individual psychologists to speak out on public policies. The Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity accepts the Leona Tyler principle and believes that the American Psychological Association and other mental health member organizations have abandoned this vital principle and have greatly damaged the credibility of the science and the profession psychology represents.

Sexual attractions are neither in-born nor permanent. Many people have experienced spontaneous and self-determined, autonomous change in their sexual attractions.

The terms “conversion therapy” and “reorientation therapy” are used by political activists as pejoratives and are unrelated to the work of Alliance clinicians.

We advocate the practice of mainstream, standard clinical models, approaches, and techniques. For example, Alliance clinicians use cognitive-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral therapies, EMDR and other trauma interventions, solution-focused and narrative therapy, psychodynamic, and experiential therapies such as psychodrama and gestalt, and many others.

Restriction of client self-determination and autonomy, and dismissal and denigration of deeply-held client values, results in psychological harm. The Alliance privileges our clients’ goals, values, self-determination, and autonomy.
